Abstract:
A dynamic business unit simulator is presented as a stand-alone personal computer application. The simulator uses a standard office-type worksheet for input and output data, while the calculation algorithm is implemented with routines of embedded software programs. The practical implementation of the simulator is based on a real model of a start-up company in the hi-tech sector. The simulator allows the input of business and structural data related to the operation of the unit, data that can in turn be recursively modified and adapted during simulation sessions. The output of the tool covers both physical and financial quantities, making possible what-if analysis with respect to market and/or structural changes in the business unit. Projections of workloads and external resources needed to achieve budget goals are also generated. The simulator can be used as a tool to analyze, compare, refine and validate issues from the study of the real business unit processes and relevant data mining.
