Abstract: Abstract In the DRC, for several years there has been an almost continuous depreciation of the national currency against the dollar. The stability of the exchange rate is an indispensable aspect in the evolution of purchasing power through income and the price of goods and services in an economy, where it suffices that there is a small imbalance in the economic situation and that income remaining stable, this will result in price instability of goods and services. It is in this logic that the present article aims to evaluate the consequences of the fluctuation of the exchange rate on the purchasing power of households in the Kitumaini & Njanja district, in the commune of Kamalondo in the DRC. The empirical results show that any fluctuation in the exchange rate leads to a rapid reaction of inflation and that this reaction seems to reflect a low standard of living of the population.
