Abstract:
This article undertakes a critical review of the fixed peg of the CFA franc to the euro, focusing on the implications of financial development in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and the pressing financial circumstances of the French Treasury. We point out that the current monetary system could prove unsustainable requiring, a review of the exchange rate regime.
