Abstract:
This paper presents a multiplicative joint-production model for evaluating the multidimensional performance of forest ecosystems. The production-theoretic approach to index numbers serves as the theoretical foundation for performance assessment, using a framework that remains neutral with respect to the selected class of performance metrics. Specifically, unified additive- and multiplicative-based disaggregated index numbers are introduced, which highlight the multidimensional performance of forest ecosystems by simultaneously considering both economic and environmental dimensions. As a result, this paper provides a multidimensional performance measurement, enabling the evaluation of the economic-environmental performance nexus of forest ecosystems. Additionally, a computational procedure is proposed to estimate the multidimensional performance of forest ecosystems, based on a non-parametric analytical framework which demonstrates the practicality of the approach.
