Relationship Between Renewable Energy, Environment Quality and Energy Consumption on Economic Growth: Evidence from North African countries

Abstract:
The relationship between renewable energy, environmental quality, energy consumption, and economic growth is explored in the context of Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, four North African countries with diverse economic structures and significant energy resources. This study employs econometric models on panel data spanning 1990 to 2020, integrating variables such as GDP growth rate, renewable energy consumption, total energy consumption, and environmental indicators like CO2 emissions. The findings indicate that while renewable energy adoption negatively affects economic growth slightly, improvements in environmental quality and increased energy consumption positively influence economic performance. Trade openness and changes in the labor force also impact GDP, highlighting the complex interplay of factors influencing sustainable economic development in the region.
