Working Papers from HAL

Abstract: ResoFret had a twofold objective. On the one hand, the aim was to advance the economic analysis of the potential for using the existing rail network to offer attractive combined transport services. In this regard, the starting point—working from the "Corail" network and then modifying it to create a coherent, "modelable" system—represented a departure from the conventional approach to studying combined transport. On the other hand, the aim was to advance the use of simulation tools—specifically AnyLogic, a software package enabling multi-agent modeling. The approach adopted here was to simulate the entire network and subject it to "realistic" demand—that is, demand that varies according to the day, time of day, and, of course, origin-destination pairs.
