Abstract:
We examine how psychological ownership of a new venture idea influences the new venture creation process. Psychological ownership emerges through entrepreneurs' investment of time and effort, the exercise of control, and the development of intimate knowledge of the new venture idea. We propose that feelings of possessing the new venture idea work through the processes of nurturing and territoriality, and explain effort and persistence in the startup process.
