Abstract:
Agricultural sectors were analysed in many studies aiming more or less explicitly at appraisal of their performance but without specification of the methods used. Whereas the assessment of development actions refers to a trilogy of development goals commonly retained (poverty alleviation, environmental sustainability, international competitiveness), it seems relevant to have a method to appraise the performance of a cotton sector in connection with development goals. The implementation of the pilot phase of the Resocot Project, which is a monitoring device of cotton sectors, made it possible to carry out such a method and data-processing tools to facilitate its use We think that this method and the associated tools can be used for other agricultural export commodity sectors, after integration of the specificities of each commodity. The exploitation of the method and the tools being proposed makes particular sense in the framework of a collective approach involving all the sector stakeholders, in order to help them reach common visions in their exchanges.
