Working Papers from HAL

Abstract: This paper discusses the applicability of concepts borrowed from social network analysis to the study of the French banking elite called "haute banque" in the 19th century. It also emphasizes the significance of a serious study of the diverse institutional involvements of this social group. Although it is mainly a review of literature, it also discusses original results about the role of bankers as directors of firms.
