Abstract:
This paper conducts several simulations to illustrate economic growth and consumption behavior of Japanese economy where ageing and decline of population are progressing rapidly. Special attention is paid to an increase in medical expenditures and a decline of the ratio of labor forces to total population. Simulation results suggest the ongoing ageing does not have significant effects on macroeconomy compared with those of the technological progress, which shows a sharp contrast with the results of the existing literature.
