Cost of Children and the Recent Fertility Decline in Japan

Abstract: 本稿においては、近年の日本の少子化が子供コストの上昇によってもたらされたのではないか、という仮説を検証するために、子供コストの推定を行った。子供のコストの推定方法は様々なものがあるが、ここでは、等価尺度(Equivalence Scale)を用いた推定を行った。Rothbarth法を用いた推定では、コストは過小評価される傾向があるが、本稿の結果では、他の各国のRothbarth法による実証結果に比べて日本のコストはやや高いという傾向が見られた。次に、効用水準を用いた推定では、子供のコストが非常に大きいという結果が得られた。
