Abstract: "Since February 2006 self-employed have the opportunity to voluntarily insure themselves against unemployment. So far there is little information on the use of unemployment insurance benefits by the self-employed. This policy brief closes this research gap and answers the following questions: Who benefits from the voluntary unemployment insurance? How frequently and for how long do recipients receive benefits?
