Abstract: "The total number of long-term unemployed workers (registered as unemployed for one year or longer) remained at a level of about 1 million during recent years, despite rising employment figures. 4.4 million persons capable to work received unemployment benefits type II for needy job-seekers in 2014, a share of 70 percent for a minimum of 21 months out of the last 24 months. In this article we analyse the relationship between long-term unemployment and long-term receipt of unemployment benefit type II in Germany. We demonstrate that only a quarter of recipients of unemployment benefit type II is long-term unemployed. The larger share of benefit recipients is unemployed less than 1 year, is employed or is not available for work due to caring responsibilities." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
