Abstract: "In 2020, only 27 percent of women held top management positions in private sector firms in Germany. Nothing much has changed in the 16 years during which the IAB Establishment Panel has monitored the development. The only exception is a notable increase in the proportion of women in middle management. On the second management level, women are almost represented according to their share of the work force. The Corona crisis particularly affected sectors in which many women work and it had a particularly high negative impact. Women often run companies in these sectors. As a result, female managers often bore a special responsibility during the pandemic. In the public sector, the share of women at both management levels is higher than in the in the private sector. However, in terms to their share of the work force, female representation in management is much lower." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
