Abstract: "This brief report presents the results of an empirical analysis of how disability onset affects individual labor market outcomes. For this, administrative data from the Federal Employment Agency, the Employment Statistics of Severely Disabled People (BsbM), are linked to the Integrated Employment Biographies (IEB) of the IAB. The authors identify employees experiencing a disability onset, which then was officially recognized and reported to the employer. Comparing these employees with similar employees who do not experience a disability onset, the authors analyze the impacts of disability onset on employment and wages as well as the role of adjustment paths, such as switching to part-time or to less demanding jobs after disability onset."
