MERCOSUR in Transition: Macroeconomic Perspectives

Daniel Heymann and Adrián Ramos ()

No 2932, IDB Publications (Working Papers) from Inter-American Development Bank

Abstract: As the region has entered a phase of recovery leaving behind the episodes of extreme turbulence, and the decision horizons have been somewhat extended, it seems appropriate to reconsider the medium term prospects of Mercosur, including the possibility of moving towards a process of deepening integration. This paper tries to contribute to this search activity with a brief analysis of regional macroeconomic interactions, and a discussion in broad terms of incentives and restrictions for macroeconomic cooperation in the specific conditions of the region.
