The Role of Action Research in Building Self-Sustaining Systems

Abstract: Action research has been widely used to solve problems in the society. There have been criticisms of action research both by traditionalist and radical social scientist. According to the latter action research lacks both the rigour of research and vigour of action. A new three dimensional grid model is suggested to pay attention to three concern of action research; concern for action, concern for research and concern for people. Implications of the model for using action research for development of self-renewing system which is discussed.
