Abstract: The pioneering innovation (PI) mode of management was identified from corporate policies data supplied by the top management of 75 Indian organizations. The paper presents the determinants and organizational consequences of the PI mode of management. Implications of the findings for Indian management, for management research and management education, and for organizational design and development are explored.
