Risk Tolerance and Demographic Characteristics: Preliminary Irish Evidence

Brian Lucey and Charles Larkin

The Institute for International Integration Studies Discussion Paper Series from IIIS

Abstract: We examine by means of a survey and subsequent statistical analysis the extent of financial risk tolerance in Irish adults. We administer the (J. Grable & Lytton, 1999) 13 item risk tolerance instrument, and find confirmed a number of stylized facts found elsewhere on age, gender and education levels and their impact on risk tolerance. This is to our knowledge the first comprehensive survey of Irish adults on their risk tolerance.
