Abstract:
Working paper assessing the importance of social class, caste and land ownership variables in economic analysis of rural economies, comprising a case study of Bihar, India - includes a brief literature survey; based on a 1981 sample survey of poverty and rural employment, shows the importance of interactions and correlations in explaining inter-household variations in labour force participation, indebtedness, agricultural technology and education. Graphs and references.
