Abstract:
About half of the Brazilian exportations to the Chinese market are primary products.Even in the manufactured products, the share of low added value products ? ascommodities and products of low technological intensity ? is very great. Therefore, thestructure of Brazilian exports to China is much less technological intensive thatthe structure of total Brazilian exports. So, this paper looks to trace a technologicaland competitive profile of the Brazilian industrial firms that sell its products in theChinese market, in order to explain the reasons of the low value added of theseproducts. It is noticed that the Brazilian industrial firms that export to China are morecompetitive, efficient and innovative that the rest of Brazilian exporting firms. Oneconcludes, therefore, that the low aggregate value of the structure of exports to Chinais due to other factors that not to little competitiveness of the Brazilian firms in theChinese market.
