Abstract: To identify complementarities and challenges that can subsidize a strategy of commercialapproach between Brazil and South Africa, the work describes the characteristicsof the South African external sector, comparing them with the ones in Brazil.It traces the social and economic profile of the two countries, the structures of theirinternational trade, their tariff profiles and the commercial agreements in work in eachone. It describes the main markets of destination of their exports, the productionfactor in which their comparative advantages lay, and shows the spatial distributionof the local production directed to the external market. It describes the markets oforigin of their respective imports and identifies the relative intensity of factors in thenational production equivalent to the imports, to confirm the source of the comparativeadvantages of each country. It describes the characteristics of the companies whichact in the international market, the importance of the international trade in itsactivities, the degree each country is involved in the global production through theperformance of foreign companies in its territory. It analyzes the current commercialinterchange between the two countries and evaluates the potential one. On the basisof the main conclusions, it suggests some actions that can be useful in drawing theBrazilian strategy of commercial approach with South Africa.
