How Subjective Age Affects Entrepreneurship: The Effects of Rejuvenating Trend on Entrepreneurial Intention among Seniors

Abstract:
Purpose: This paper focus on the concept of subjective age which has been mainly studied in gerontology, psychology and marketing. More precisely, it explores the potential effect of the rejuvenating trend on entrepreneurial intention among seniors. Design/Methodology/approach: This study is based on a sample of 224 seniors aged 45 years old and more. A two-step procedure has been performed to test our hypotheses: a hierarchical regression analysis and a bootstrapping procedure (Preacher and Hayes, 2008). Findings: The study reveals a direct effect of rejuvenating trend on entrepreneurial intention among seniors. The study also reveals that social norms mediates this effect. Research limitations/implications: Whereas this research investigates the role of the rejuvenating trend as an antecedent of entrepreneurial intention, future studies should integrate other aging related individual variables, such as, generativity, death anxiety and perceived health. Practical implications: As our findings reveal the entrepreneurial potential of seniors, it should be necessary to create accompanying structures dedicated to this specific population.
