No 1997/05, Working Papers GHES - Office of Economic and Social History from ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics and Management, GHES - Social and Economic History Research Unit, Universidade de Lisboa

Abstract: This working paper introduces two indicators of acessibility of football — regional concentration and average distance between the places of the origin of the teams participating in a tournament — and two indicators of its competitiveness — an indicator of global competitiveness based on the results of all participants and an indicator of the superiority of the winner based on the difference of its performance compared to the one of its main rival. These indicators are illustrated with the Portuguese First League.
