Abstract: This paper analyses the evolution of inequality among twenty-four countries belonging to the OECD during the period 1962-1993, using the database provided by this Organization. It argues the relevance of distinguishing between the two variables that arehabitually considered in the analysis of inequality and convergence: per capita income and labor productivity. It considers different indicators of inequality, placing the emphasis on the differences between simple and weighted statistics, as well as their implications. Finally, it compares the evolution of the countries currently members of the EU (EU-15) and the othernine members of the OECD. El trabajo analiza la evolución de la desigualdad entre veinticuatro países pertenecientes a la OCDE durante el periodo 1962-1993, utilizando la base de datos proporcionada por este Organismo. Argumenta la pertinencia de distinguir entre las dos variables que habitualmente se contemplan en el análisis de la desigualdad y la convergencia: renta per capita y productividad del trabajo. Considera distintos indicadores de desigualdad poniendo el énfasis en las diferencias existentes entre estadísticos simples y ponderados así como sus implicaciones. Por último, compara la evolución seguida por los países que integran a actual Unión Europea (EU-15) y los nueve países restantes de la OCDE.
