Elements to design an integral education policy: the Colombian case

Abstract:
This article presents some guidelines to design an educational policy from an economic point of view. First, a brief description of the structure and evolution of the Colombian educational sector from an international perspective is described. Then, the author discusses the distribution of subsidies from public expenditure for education, and shows its level of progression. On the other hand, the author presents the educational sector within a context of international competitiveness, emphasizing the process of economic aperture of the country. Finally, some advice on educational policy is presented.
