Abstract:
This paper examines the interaction of various factors in a patient's decision to switch practices and patient removals by GPs. Practice quality attributes, together with the form of competition, socioeconomic variables and patients' characteristics are modeled as a ecting patient's choice andremoval from practice. I use data on patients' registrations with general practitioners and practice characteristics over a two-year period from a British Health Authority. The model explains practice attractiveness and predict whether a patient will leave a doctor. Distance from practice together with individual's and socioeconomic characteristics account for creamskimming irrespective of practice purchasing type.
