Abstract: This article proposes a critical evaluation of what the neoclassical stream calls he "new growth theory". It analyses what is the "endogenous growth", through the presentation, in a first part, of the origins, mechanisms and categories of endogenous technical progress models. In a second part, it deals with a series of critics against these models, on the theoretical and conceptual levels, but also from a political point of views, as a reflection about the ideological and social functions of this neoclassical theory. The discussion focuses in particular on problems linked to the logical incoherence associated to the representative agent, the contradictions of the concept of State and the ideological meaning of the paradigm of equilibrium, the ad hocity of the orthodox formalisations and their refusal of realism, the difficulties of their empirical tests, the political message favourable to privatization of knowledge...
