The Italian contract market. Furniture and interiors

Aurelio Volpe () and Sara Maddaloni

No IT37, CSIL reports from CSIL Centre for Industrial Studies

Abstract: The contract furniture market in Italy accounts for approximately EUR 2.6 billion (at current prices). This segment has rapidly developed also in Italy since the contract market in the Arabian countries has boomed, about 15 years ago. Hospitality is the major business in Italy, accounting for about a half of the total market for contract. Sectors of retail, education, marine, hospitals and health clinics, airports and the property market also have relevant shares in this emerging business. CSIL Market Research offers a comprehensive picture of the structure of the contract demand determinants, the supply structure and the purchasing process in the Italian market for contract furniture and furnishings. Information are provided on the following segments: hotels and hospitality, restaurant and bar, retail, education, marine and others. Trends are given for the following markets: interior furniture (upholstered furniture, bedroom and living, other furniture), bathroom furniture and wellness, office furniture, outdoor furniture, lighting fixtures (decorative and architectural) and other interior decoration (window covering, wall papers and others). Companies' total sales operating in the contract market are available, broken down by supply structure: interior furniture, office furniture, upholstered furniture, kitchen furniture, and lighting. The quota of the contract business for each company mentioned is also specified. A useful appendix includes around 600 companies: 260 contract manufacturers more than 200 architects and interior designers and 200 retailers operating in the contract segment.
