No 134, Apas Papers from Academic Public Administration Studies Archive - APAS

Abstract: The present study presents an empirical test of organizational identification in the context of alumni-university relationships. It examines whether alumni identify with their university and what the sources and outcomes of such identification are. The model posits that alumni satisfaction with student experience, university prestige, and two alumni characteristics, namely collective interdependence and sentimentality, give rise to alumni identification. In turn, such identification is expected to influence both alumni participation in alumni activities and promoting the university. Results from the empirical test provided support for all the hypothesized relationships. The study findings provide direction for academic administrators seeking to maintain and develop alumni support.
