OECD support towards STI statistical capability development in Egypt: Assessment and main recommendations

Oecd

No 181, OECD Science, Technology and Industry Policy Papers from OECD Publishing

Abstract: This document provides the main conclusions and recommendations arising from the statistical capability support provided by the OECD to Egypt in the area of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), as part of the Innovation Policy Review conducted under the framework of the OECD-Egypt Country Programme. The report provides an assessment and recommendations on the design, conduct and dissemination of statistical data activities corresponding to R&D and innovation across all of Egypt’s institutional sectors. The recommendations not only concern suggestions for improving procedures of STI statistical production with a view towards ensuring full international comparability according to OECD standards. They also lay out a roadmap for enhancing conditions and frameworks required to enable a more sustained and systematic domestic approach to STI statistics, characterised by effective collaboration among all STI actors to inform Egypt’s drive towards a more knowledge-intensive society.
