Abstract:
This paper analyses the market in the non-listed legal person (faren, hereafter LP) shares of companies listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SHZSE) during 1994-2002. It is comprised of an initial analysis of a data set made available by the Shenzhen Securities Settlement and Clearing Company (SSCC) on 840 non-tradable share transactions during 1984-2002. It explains how this new market operates, what entities are involved, the prices at which shares are transferred, and the extent to which control over listed firms changes via these sales.
