Abstract:
This paper aims to analyze police performance in relation to the apprehension of adolescent offenders in the Municipality of São Paulo (MSP) for the year 2022, through the territorial distribution of apprehensions. For this purpose, secondary data made available by the Secretariat of Public Security of the State of São Paulo were analyzed regarding police productivity, in the nature of "offenders apprehended in flagrante" and "offenders apprehended per warrant", per 100 thousand inhabitants. The numbers were analyzed by the population rate in order to allow the comparison between places with different population sizes of each Police District (PD) and to neutralize the population growth, allowing comparison in the medium and long term. From the georeferencing of the PDs, our spatial analysis unit, provided by the Center for Metropolitan Studies, it was found that the highest number of apprehensions takes place in the outskirts of the MSP, especially in the South and East Zones, being one of the regions with a higher level of impoverishment of the population, with less infrastructure and a higher homicide rate, it is also the region where the highest number of apprehended offenders is found. More popular parts of the city center also presented high rates of apprehension, such as the Bom Retiro PD.
