Abstract:
One of tenets in education is learning assessment. Assessment is fundamentally the act of using questions to reveal the extent to which teachers are changing students’ academic performance through learning. Unfortunately, assessment is a necessary task but complicated. Without a carefully developed measurement instrument that captures the indicators of learning, it is very difficult if not impossible to make meaningful assessment. This essay provides an explanation of Rasch Analysis at a glance, as a technique to develop assessment instrument based on the indicators of learning which want to assess. One of the most powerful aspects of Rasch Analysis is this technique allows the meaning of student measures and the meaning of group measures to be explained using the context of the instrument’s items. For a test, if a group of students improves from pre to post, a teacher can explain the meaning of the change.
