Abstract:
This article aims to investigate Celso Furtado's thought on economic development and the role of State in front of foreign capital in Brazil. The question the article seeks to answer is: how has the influence of foreign capital in Brazil modified Furtado's propositions in relation to the State's strategies for overcoming underdevelopment? The hypothesis that the research raises is that in the first phase of Furtado's thinking the role of the State is interventionist-entrepreneurial, but in another phase, Furtado emphasizes a more insurgent-vanguardist to his developmentalist State. The article used as methodological procedures the literature review.
