Individual, Structural and Exchange Mobility: Decomposition and Axiom based measures

Nachiketa Chattopadhyay and Debasis Sengupta

No 8m46u, SocArXiv from Center for Open Science

Abstract: We present a novel and common framework for analysing transition matrices representing social, occupational or economic mobility. It is based on an unambiguous decomposition of structural and exchange components of mobility and applicable to nominal, ordinal and continuous data with grouping. Partial orders of transition matrices and scaled axiomatic measures of directional and other mobility follow from these easily interpretable representations.
