Abstract:
The study of anti-gypsyism, a phenomenon often neglected in the analysis of racism, is at the heart of this chapter, which explores in depth the social, economic and political dimensions that structure hostile attitudes towards the Roma. Using multidimensional analysis and logistic regression models, it identifies the major predictors of anti-Gypsyism in France. The chapter is structured around several major themes: 1. **Theoretical and contextual introduction** : - Definition of antigypsyism and comparison with other forms of racism. - Historical context and changing perceptions of the Roma in France and Europe. 2. **Quantitative analysis of prejudice** : - Use of the anti-gypsyism scale to measure hostile attitudes. - Cross-referencing with other scales such as ethnocentrism and political positions. 3. **Socio-demographic factors and their impact** : - Study of variables such as age, gender, level of education, family income, and religious practice. - Analysis of the weight of each variable using regression models. 4. **Correlations and profiles of hostile groups** : - Identification of correlations between levels of ethnocentrism and anti-gypsyism. - Description of typical profiles of the most hostile individuals. 5. **Effects of public policies and awareness campaigns** : - Assessment of the impact of government and NGO interventions on reducing prejudice. - Analysis of educational and memorial efforts to combat anti-Gypsyism. This chapter highlights the importance of understanding anti-gypsyism in the broader context of racism. The results show that factors such as level of education, political position and religious practice play a crucial role in shaping attitudes towards the Roma. In addition, public initiatives and awareness campaigns have a significant impact on reducing prejudice. The study calls for continued action and strengthened educational policies to combat anti-Gypsyism and promote the inclusion of Roma in society.
