Abstract:
The debate on housing in Brazil has resumed at a time of strong social demand, with the absence of national and state housing policies and insufficient supply from the private initiative to reduce the existing housing deficit. The objective of the article is to show that there are important experiences on Social Technologies (ST) for housing already consolidated in the country and to argue that ST offer alternatives to face the housing problem. The argument is divided in two sections. The first offers a brief theoretical review of the ST concept; the second deals with the housing issue and the experiences catalogued in the Social Technologies Bank (BTS) of the Banco do Brasil Foundation (FBB). At the end, it is stated that STs can improve government policy strategies in this area and considerations are made on basic points for their inclusion in public housing actions and policies in Brazil.
