Abstract:
The paper tries to answer the question “How can the macroeconomic effect of an Universal Basic Income (UBI) be studied?”. It adopts an Agent Based - Stock Flow Consistent approach to address the problem, developing a model rooted in the real side of the economy with endogenous heterogeneity in wealth and wages. It shows that an UBI increases the private demand and the inequality in the system, but that introducing keynesian taxation-based policy counteracts the inequality effect with only minor effects on the demand side.
