Abstract:
The present wants to focus on this much vaunted link between acculturation, knowledge transfer and financial success in the context of M&As. Among five mergers and/or acquisition ventures we have studied, we found that only two firms which have succeeded in both transferring knowledge and achieving financial success; whereas the other three ones only realised financial success but not knowledge transfer. The two ventures that succeeded on both counts were driven by a motivation to transfer knowledge. In contrast, in the other three ones, knowledge transfer was not an explicit motivation of the two parties to join forces. Does this mean that there is tight coupling between motivation to access new knowledge and success in that regard, on the one hand, and loose coupling between knowledge transfer and financial success, on the other?
