Abstract: This study examines the relationship between institutional structures and governance outcomes, focusing on how constitutional design, political alignment, and electoral systems affect institutional quality across countries. It specifically considers features such as the form of government, the presence and design of bicameral legislatures, party alignment across legislative chambers, and methods of upper house elections. The empirical investigation assesses how these characteristics influence key governance indicators, including control of corruption, government effectiveness, voice and accountability, judicial independence, and government social expenditure.
