Industrial Policy and the Environment: The Case of the Manufacturing Sector in Metro Cebu
Danilo Israel
No DP 1997-02, Discussion Papers from Philippine Institute for Development Studies
Abstract:
While industrialization brings with it the promise of development, it also carries the threat of serious environmental problems, which unfortunately has not been well addressed by policy makers. Using Metro Cebu data, the paper investigates the impacts of industrial policies on the manufacturing sector and the interaction of that sector with environmental policy regarding industrial pollution. The paper gathers and analyzes information useful for the identification of problems and the development of recommendations relevant to industrial pollution in industrialized urban areas.
