Abstract: In this essay we estimate six income poverty indexes for period 1990-2000 referred to the state of Chihuahua (México). In the first two sections of this study are justified and explained, in general terms, the methods and indicators used for measuring poverty. In a third section is described, based on the results of the calculated indicators, the situation and the evolution of poverty during the period of reference. Finally, it is made a brief comment about the importance of poverty studies in this region and the basic guidelines they could follow in the short term.
