Innovation and knowledge-based economy
Daniele Schiliro'
MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany
Abstract:
This paper addresses the theme of innovation since innovation is key for the long-term growth. It also examines the question relating to the affirmation of a knowledge-based economy model, especially among the most advanced countries. Regarding innovation, the starting point of the analysis is Schumpeter, his theory of innovation, the role of the entrepreneur-innovator and that of large corporations in developing and implementing innovations. Through the 2015 Global Innovation Index data, the relationship between innovation and policies aimed at fostering innovative activity is also discussed. Furthermore, post-industrial economy and knowledge-based economy are addressed in this work. The latter is an economy characterized by research activity, innovation and learning, but also by a growing productive specialization. The knowledge economy index (KEI) developed by the World Bank Institute is also discussed regarding the assessment of the knowledge economy.
