A first estimate of import and export demand elasticities of real services in Argentina

Abstract:
A first estimation of the elasticities of demand of services exported and imported by Argentina is made at the account level by means of error correction models. The results reveal that the general demand for services is relatively inelastic to the real exchange rate, both in exports and imports, and that imported services are "normal" according to the sign of the corresponding income elasticity. However, the results are not conclusive regarding the sign of the income elasticity of exported services. These conclusions cannot be transferred to specific (balance of payments) accounts, for which particular estimates are provided.
