Economía experimental: Nuevas metodologías para analizar el comportamiento individual

Experimental Economics: New Methodologies to Analyze the Individual Behavior

Francisco Galarza () and Mauricio Power

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: This document discusses the application of several experimental methods used in Economics and reviews some of the most recent advances in Experimental Economics, a branch of Economics that use those methods to test the validity of theories and examine the role of institutions (in the sense of North (1990)) on individal and collective behavior. In addition to finding important results that seem to challenge the economist´s conventional wisdom, the findings from Experimental Economics provide new tools to improve our understanding of the individual's behavior under differente institutional settings. Being such understanding the ultimate goal of this document, we also aim to increase the toolkit to examine several economic subjects, such as: discrimination, the demand for financial instruments, the design of resources extraction rules, and the formation of social networks, to cite only a few. We hope that this publication will help promote a greater use of experimental methods in Economics and other social sciences.
