MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany
Abstract:
The article presents a linear program that optimizes the activities of a univeristy professor. Two objective-functions are proposed (personal income and academic merit) and a set of linear constraints inspired by the evaluation guidelines of the teaching staff of the School of Agronomy, University of Buenos Aires. The results show that income-maximizing professors will choose to teach graduate courses, publish books, manage university and complete post-graduate studies. Instead, professors who maximize academic merit will mainly choose to teach graduate courses, publish scientific articles and complete post-graduate studies. Undergraduate education, thesis advisory, and extension activities appear in the solution only as required by university regulations.
