Abstract:
The question of adequate understanding, assessment and improving the competitiveness of diverse governing structures in agriculture is one of the most topical scientific, managerial and political tasks. Based on the methodology of the New Institutional Economy, the definition is being rethought and a system is being developed to assess the competitiveness of the governing structures in Bulgarian farming. The experimentation of the proposed framework found out that the low productivity, profitability, financial security and adaptability to changes in the natural environment are critical for the competitive positions of Bulgarian agricultural producers. Public support and improvement of farming managerial strategies are to be directed in the later directions. Furthermore, besides the legal type of the enterprise, other dimensions of the farm such as economic size, product specialization, ecological and geographical location, market orientation, etc. are crucial for shaping the level of competitiveness.
