Abstract:
In recent years it has been stated that not all regions of the European Union with a GDP per capita below the European average are converging. This is the main conclusion of the recently published paper by Diemer, Iammarino, Rodríguez-Pose and Storper (2022). Thus, long-term economic stagnation is observed in many regions, generating what is called the “development trap”. This works addresses how this may be the situation of the Region of Galicia (Spain), as a European region that has lost its growth rate compared to the dynamics of the Spanish and European economy. Specifically, Galicia not only decreases its participation in the Spanish economy as a whole, but its growth rates in recent periods are lower.
