Effects of teleworking on psychological well-being and job satisfaction: The case of Sweden

Abstract:
Telework in Sweden has seen significant growth in recent years, with nearly 25% of workers engaging in telework by 2012, compared to only 10% in 2006. Despite this rise, few studies have explored the psychological effects of telework in Sweden, particularly in terms of job satisfaction, work-family balance, anxiety, and fatigue. This study utilizes data from the European Working Conditions Survey 2010 and 2015 to investigate these effects. Results indicate that telework does not have a significant impact on job satisfaction or work-family balance. However, factors such as weekly working hours, self-employment, and living with a partner are found to influence fatigue and anxiety levels. These findings suggest that, while telework offers flexibility, its effects on worker well-being are nuanced and require further analysis, especially in broader and long-term contexts.
